Who We Are
Established in 2004, Mushroom Media is an independent digital Post-Production facility with locations in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa.
Focused on high-end episodic series, feature films, commercials and online content, we are equipped to handle the full spectrum of the post-production process from dailies processing to offline editorial, colour grade, VFX finishing as well as final mastering and delivery.
Close client relationships and personal attention to each job is key to our company’s unique approach. We employ and collaborate with experts to provide the technical and creative craftsmanship that sets our work apart.
We are constantly investing in state of the art equipment that supports our artists to do their best work, in the shortest time. Clients have access to comfortable viewing rooms that are fully-serviced and catered. All work is reviewed on industry standard calibrated 65” OLED monitors. Fast, redundant internet connectivity allows us to connect to cloud based storage for streamlined and progressive workflows.

Technology
All our rooms are centrally fibre-channel linked to industry leading Stornext based, uncompressed 4K+ realtime capable storage, ideal for high-performance collaborative workflows. This allows a project to move seamlessly from one phase of the process to another across the facility instantly. The effortless collaboration of multiple artists working simultaneously on a project is also made possible, sharing the workload to meet tight deadlines. We also have direct and secure connections between our Johannesburg and Cape Town facilities to allow both sites to operate as one.
We boast the best 4K HDR colour monitoring in South Africa, including four of our HDR suites being equipped with Sony’s flagship X300 and HX310 HDR mastering monitors, along with multiple other professionally calibrated 65” OLED client viewing monitors, to ensure accurate and spectacular colour reproduction in 4K. We also make use of the latest software from a range of leading vendors including DaVinci Resolve, Colorfront, Avid and Adobe which allows our artists to work with the best toolsets available and deliver to international specs and standards reliably.
Our redundant 10 Gb/s fibre internet connections provide extremely fast and stable internet for smooth global transfers of large files to all cloud based services and very fast uploads and downloads across all platforms. In addition, our facility’s robust online UPS’s and modern generator run 24/7 to ensure we have uninterrupted functioning of the facility should municipal power fail.
We offer comprehensive archiving services for your peace of mind. All data is stored on our LTO 8 library and tapes are stored in an offsite fireproof and flood proof vault. We take data security and redundancy very seriously and keep a minimum of 3 copies on separate storage mediums of all master material.
We are constantly upgrading our infrastructure and looking to harness new technology as it becomes available but ultimately we work hard at making the technology invisible, so that the focus is on the creativity and quality of the outputs.
